3 Kings Day

January 6th is a holiday for much of Latin America and Spain, as it is the celebrated day of the 3 Kings arrival to the manger scene. Dave taught me that the holiday is called “Dia de los Reyes Magos” in Spain and that holiday is about equally celebrated as Christmas. There are parades, presents, and late night festivities on that day in Spain. As Dave served his mission there, he has always loved the culture and makes any attempt to live it as he can here. He was so happy to bring home with him on Friday, January 6th a “Roscon de los Reyes.” This is a traditional cake the Spaniards eat on this holiday. He said he had been trying to find these at bakeries all over the valley for the past few years but finally located one in a Mexican bakery in Midvale. He was so excited to share it with me! Of course, I didn’t love it, but Dave did! Traditionally inside the cake is a tiny figurine of Jesus. If you receive this (and don’t break your tooth on it!) you are given good luck throughout the next year. Dave was lucky enough to find it! He also followed tradition and placed little presents in my shoes that I woke up to on Saturday morning! I got some chocolates from around the world and some cute coupons for Dave to do favors for me, such as making dinner AND doing the dishes! It was a fun little celebration and we hope to make this another annual tradition for our little family.
