Dave has always been WONDERFUL at planning and making Valentine's Day perfect, and he didn't disappoint this year. It was a little more difficult for him this year because of our carpooling situation, but he still did such a good job, and we had so much fun together.
I was already anxious for the day because of the fun Valentine's Day party I was going to have with my Kindergarteners. I think that Valentine's Day is one of the very most fun to celebrate in elementary school. All of my kiddos brought me little Valentine's presents, and made me the cutest cards I've ever seen. We had a lot of fun at our party, and I came home with LOTS of chocolate from my 21 little sweeties.
I dropped Dave off at work that morning, so that I would have the car and could swing by and pick him up at 5:00 on the dot, as soon as he could leave work, and we wouldn't have to waste time driving all the way back out to Draper to pick me up.
At 5:00, I was at his building ready to pick him up, and I look out my window and I see my cute hubby walking out to the car with chocolate covered strawberries in hand (Luckily, for me, I think this has turned into a Valentine's Day tradition!). I was SO happy to see him, and was thrilled that he had gotten my favorite treat (I found out later that because he didn't have a car, he had to ask a co-worker to drive him to get them so that he could surprise me! How cute is that??)
We started driving home and he said that he had one more stop to make, but that it would be really quick. We drove to Costco, which is not surprising, because we stop there everyday after work for gas and any other groceries we need. But...instead of groceries, he walked out with a BEAUTIFUL bouquet of flowers! For me! Is he the cutest or what?:? I am so lucky! I had my chocolate covered strawberries and my flowers - I was set for the best Valentine's Day ever.
When we got home, we made dinner together - red and white (Valentine's Day colors. Get it?) baked pasta (thanks Hannah, for the recipe!). It was SOO tasty, especially with our Sparkling Cider! :) For dessert, we made a heart shaped chocolate chip cookie and topped it with ice cream (I picked up Dave's favorite, triple chocolate, after I dropped him off at work that morning). The cookie was delicious, and so was the rest of dinner!
We had a smaller budget for gifts this Valentine's Day, since we are still trying to figure out how to live with a mortgage payment. :) But, as always, Dave still gave the perfect gifts. He gave me some children's books (which I am CRAZY about!), a CD of some of his favorite old time love songs, and a Rick Steve's travel guide to Italy. We are planning on going to Italy next spring - a year from now - and he wanted me to start looking at things I wanted to do. He said he would make sure we were able to do anything and everything I wanted to do. I thought it was the sweetest, most thoughtful gift, and I have already looked through the book like crazy trying to find things I want to do! It was the perfect gift, from a pretty perfect husband. :) I gave Dave a photobook of pictures from our trip we took to Washington, D.C. this summer, a movie (Mr. Smith Goes to Washington), a Charlie Brown hot chocolate cup, and a propaganda poster from WWII for his garage. The gifts may sound weird to you, but Dave loved them and thought they were the best Valentine's Day gifts ever.
Don't mind my silly pink pajamas. I've always been more of a comfort person than a stylish person, and these pajamas are 100% comfortable even if they are 100% unstylish. :)
To finish off the night, we watched Roman Holiday with Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck. We of course fell asleep in the middle of it and had to finish later during the week. But...the movie was good, and it was the perfect way to end our night. We also decided to use some gift certificates we have to go to dinner and a movie tonight, instead of crazy Valentine's Day, so I guess our celebration has two parts. The first part was PERFECT, and our date tonight is going to be just as fun.
Happy Valentine's Day to the best valentine in the whole entire world!
