The day started off with sleeping in, something we only get to enjoy on Saturday (we can't even sleep in on Sunday because we have 9:00 church!). Then we went to Fort Douglas Day, which was pretty much Dave's dream come true. It was a kind of tribute to military men and women throughout America's history, with museums, parades, and demonstrations. We started off at the Civil War encampment where a man dressed up as a confederate soldier was telling us all about the 'War of Northern Aggression', as he called it, and Dave was SO excited. We watched some union soldiers fire a cannon and it was LOUD! I can't imagine actually fighting with all the smoke and noise that came from cannon fire! Then we made our way to the army trucks and tanks. It was so fun being there with Dave, because he was just like a little boy on Christmas morning, seeing all of these history artifacts right in front of his eyes.
After we looked in the museum and explored the tanks, we went to watch a demonstration about D-Day, and what the different soldiers during the World War II era wore. They had men dressed up as different types of soldiers, and they would explain all the equipment they were wearing, what it was for, and even how it worked.

of Normandy on D-Day.
Dave with two different types of paratroopers. Dave kept
telling me over and over that if he was in WWII he would
have been a paratrooper because they had the toughest missions.

Right before we left Fort Douglas Day, we stayed to watch a few WWII veterans being honored and recognized. I thought about how amazing it was that so many of these young boys would so willingly put their lives on the line just to serve their country and protect our freedoms. It is so neat to see veterans like that and to think about all of the sacrifices they made, and others just like them, have made throughout our history to keep our nation free and safe. It was kind of a humbling experience.
Next, we went to play tennis for awhile. Dave won our 1st game, and we would have played another game but some boys came to play on the other court and they were kind of intimidating, so I got kind of embarrassed to play. My performance started getting pretty atrocious, so we went home. We decided that the weather was so nice we would go on a jog, and so we ran a few miles together before we went home.
Then, we went to look at our dream house again. We go every once in awhile. We have no idea who lives there, but we do know that we love their house and want one just like it someday!
Need I say more??
We had free meal cards to Cafe Rio, and were anxiously looking forward to eating there all day long! We never ever go out to eat, and so whenever we do it is a big deal. We were SOO excited for our food! Cafe Rio also has this new strawberry lemonade and it is so fresh and delicious. It tastes just like a melted smoothie.
Before: A very anxious and hungry stomach
After: A very full and sick stomach
We finished the evening by watching Sense and Sensibility, a birthday gift from Dave. It is one of my very favorite movies, and he was so cute to watch it with me. I guess the whole day was a day of compromise, where both of us got to do our favorite things. Dave - WWII/history, Jen - girly Jane Austen movie. :) We had such a wonderful day just being together and doing our favorite things. It was definitely a Saturday to remember.
I love that I still get to hear about what you are up to on the weekends! Sounds perfect!! :) And eat extra cafe rio for me okay! I miss it SO much!
