Valentine's Day

I know, I know. It is almost St. Patrick's Day, and I'm just barely getting around to blogging about Valentine's Day. Well, that's just kinda how things have been around here lately. :) But we did have a FANTASTIC Valentine's Day, and I am excited to write about it.

Valentine's Day was on a Friday this year, and Dave had to work kinda late on Valentine's Day. Since we are on our diet, we decided to celebrate Valentine's Day on Saturday, which was actually the day after, since Dave would be busy and we couldn't have any treats or anything until Saturday, our free day of our diet. So, even though we didn't really celebrate Valentine's Day on the actual day, we still had a great time.

Lydia and I went to see Dave at work since they were throwing a big Valentine's Day party for all of the residents.  Since Dave was in charge, the event somehow turned into a 50's themed party and Elvis Presley came to perform, two things that Dave is crazy about. Coincidence? ....  I'm not sure. :) We bought Lydia a poodle skirt for the occasion, and I have to say, she was pretty darn cute in it.

Pretty cute, don't you think??
Dave made Lydia come up to the front and do the "baby twist" for all of the residents to see. They loved it!
As part of the program, Dave had his little brother Brock and Brock's friend Jenny come and dance to a few popular songs from the 50's. They did an awesome job, and looked super cute too.

The residents were totally amazed by the lifts they did. It was so cute.

Look at the little 50's family!
They hired a real-life Elvis impersonator, straight from Las Vegas to come to the building and perform for the residents. He was pretty awesome, and Dave was in heaven. He sang for a pretty long time, and the residents were just loving it. They were singing along, clapping, cheering and everything. It was super cute!
He looks a lot like the real Elvis, don't you think? Check out those sideburns!
I don't know what this song is (sorry Dave!), but it was a fun one.

This was by far his coolest outfit. At the end when we were taking pictures with him, the cute old lady in front of me asked him if she could please have that red scarf. He said it was stinky and smelly, but if she wanted it, then she could definitely have it. You should have seen the smile on the lady's face. Priceless.

After the performance, we waited in a REALLY long line to get pictures with him, but it was worth it. We got some pretty fun ones. The one with my grandpa and Elvis might just be my favorite one.

Dave was pretty exhausted by the time the party was over, and rightly so. He had been running around like a mad man trying to make sure everything ran smoothly. After the party was over, he was so ready for a relaxing evening of watching the Olympics! We don't have TV at our house, so we had been going to my mom's house a lot to watch the Olympics that she had recorded for us. We got to relax and watch some Olympics before we headed back to our house for the night.

We decided that since it was Valentine's Day after all, we would give ourselves the luxury of having a TINY square of Dark Chocolate in celebration of love day. Needless to say, we ate it really slow and savored every little bite. Haha. We were pretty desperate for sweets by Friday night. :)

Luckily, the next day was Saturday, and we could finally celebrate for real! Dave had been telling me that he had the whole day planned for us, and I could hardly wait to see what was in store. I had been excited about this day for a LONG time.

While I was feeding the baby, Dave surprised me by setting all of this up in the kitchen. He said that he wanted it to feel like a restaurant, since we don't go out to eat very often. He wanted me to feel like I could come in, order whatever I wanted, and leave the dishes. What a sweetie, huh?? He is the best.

Our cute menus. He is so sweet and thoughtful.

I ended up ordering heart shaped chocolate chip pancakes, and BOY where they ever yummy! Dave is really quite the chef.
After breakfast, we opened up our presents.  You'll notice that there are a lot of movies there. Well, one of our very favorite things to do together is to cuddle up on the couch and watch a movie, with a treat (if it is free day). My favorite movie treat is a shake. So, Dave decided to capitalize on that for Valentine's Day. His gift to me was a bunch of movies, and you see that menu in the very back? That is the "Egbert Maltshop Menu", with milkshake creations catered to my favorite flavors. We have a mint chocolate brownie shake, peanut butter chocolate, chocolate strawberry, S'Mores, birthday cake surprise, and more. He thought up all of these fun flavors he thought I would like, and made up a menu for them, so we could do movie nights with shakes. It was my favorite gift, for sure.

Also, the footprints are from Lydia to Daddy. :)

While Lydia was taking a nap, Dave had planned for us to make homemade chocolate covered strawberries. YUM! Chocolate covered strawberries are one of my very very favorite treats, and they are the best when they are homemade. He also had bought a heart shaped pizza from Papa Murphy's the night before and put it in the fridge and covered it up so I wouldn't see it, and we got to eat that for lunch. It was so so good.

Our attempt at a white chocolate drizzle didn't work out so well, but the Oreo dipping was pretty tasty.
We watched You're In Love, Charlie Brown while we ate our pizza. So fun!

After lunch, we went down to Salt Lake to shop at one of my favorite stores - the Wood Connection. This store is so dangerous for me, because I walk in and see TONS of things that I want. Dave let me buy whatever I wanted (I reigned in my wants, don't worry), and it was so fun to just shop around. (We've since painted the things we bought, and they turned out super cute - see those in a later post).

Later that evening, Dave had arranged for my mom to watch Lydia and had made us reservations for PF Chang's. It had been SO long since I had been there, and we really don't go out to eat very often, so it was a real treat for us. My very favorite part though, was the Chocolate Wall that we ordered for dessert. I know that I've already said that a bunch of things are my favorite treat in this blog, but the Chocolate Wall is my very favorite one of all time - ever. There is nothing that is as tasty to me as this dessert. I couldn't have been happier as we were eating it.

YES! YES! YES!
***Here's a funny little side note. Since we've been on this diet, our tummies on our free day tend to fill up pretty quickly, and we don't have as much room as we used to have to eat all the yummy junk food we'd like to (which is a good thing). Dave had so much of this cake (and the other regular food here) that he was getting cold sweats at the table. I had to stop when I didn't have any room, but he couldn't stand seeing that yummy cake go to waste, so he kept eating until it was pretty much all gone. Needless to say, I had to drive home while he reclined in the passenger seat to try to help his indigestion. So funny.

After dinner, we picked up the baby from my mom's house and headed home. We had some yummy milkshakes from the Egbert Maltshop (I chose a chocolate peanut butter one), and we watched Sabrina - the older movie with Harrison Ford in it. It was SUCH a fun day, and I was so grateful that I have such a cute husband who put so much thought into planning out the entire day to make it special for me. It was the perfect Valentine's Day, and it was so nice to have a special day where we just focus on how much we love each other. I'm so glad that we will have many more Valentine's Days in the future to celebrate together.

  2. We watched Sabrina on Valentine's day too! Except the one with Audrey Hepburn. I guess it's just the perfect Valentine's movie!
