Life at the Egbert household has been full of some fun things the last few weeks and I wanted to write them down before I forgot about them.
Last Saturday, Dave competed in the Legacy Duathlon, which is a biking and running race. No swimming, so it's different than triathlon. Dave did the Olympic length one, as opposed to the other 'sprint' length races he's done before, so it was a little more challenging for him. For the race, he had to run a 5k, then bike for 22 miles, then run another 5k to finish. He was a little nervous because he has an IT band issue, which hurts his leg and makes it hard to run sometimes, but he did GREAT! He completed the race in 2 hours and 7 minutes. He took 43rd place overall and took 6th in his age division. Lydia and I came to watch him cross the finish line.
Look at that happy face! Oh, I just love him.
She loves her daddy.
These two have my whole heart. :)
He ran the race with our friends Jordan & Candace. They finished just after Dave. Way to go!!
Last Monday for family night, we celebrated Passover. You know Dave, he loves to celebrate his holidays! He said that he was going to make us a Passover feast for dinner, and I have to admit I was a little bit skeptical. But, surprisingly to me, it was super yummy! We got some (mostly) unleavened bread from Costco, and Dave made some creamy lemon chicken, and we had couscous and a salad on the side. After dinner, we watched The Prince of Egypt. I seriously love that movie. I have the soundtrack and everything. Don't judge me, but I got goosebumps when the intro to the movie came on. I hope Lydia likes it so that we can watch it together sometimes.
Here is Dave, introducing our Passover meal.
And of course, for Dave, what holiday would be complete without a dance?? I love Lydia's face in it. Sometimes she loves it, sometimes it looks like she's thinking, "Umm...Dad? Seriously?"
Passover was a family night success, and we will be doing it next year as well. Dave said he already has plans for another yummy meal. :) Haha. I love him.
My mom and I have been busy with our sewing projects! Right now we are finishing up some rag quilts - U of U themed, and Jazz themed. I love sewing these rag quilts, because they are so easy and repetitive that it doesn't take much brain power. They take a long time but they're kind of mindless, which is nice. We have fabric cut to make 2 Jazz quilts as well, but we haven't started those ones yet.
We're also working on a T-Shirt quilt made from all of my high school T-shirts. I was cleaning out my closet awhile ago and thought, "Hey, I have a TON of school shirts. Maybe I could make them into a quilt!" And....here you go. We're getting close to finishing this one as well. It's going to look so great once it's finished.
Lydia has been eating rice cereal. Her first attempts were not so great, but she has slowly been getting the hang of it. We also ran into a snag because she kept getting this horrible rash around her chin and neck and everywhere the cereal would touch. It turns out she has super sensitive skin, so we just have to be careful to wipe it off her chin really good during her feeding, and try to keep her as covered up as possible so it doesn't spill on the rest of her body. Poor little thing. It's so weird to see her actually eating stuff from a spoon - it means she's getting bigger which is happy and sad for me at the same time. Here is the progression of her first attempts at cereal.
Happy!
Still happy. Can you see her rash already forming? Poor little thing.
Thinking about how horrible it is....
....and hatred. Haha.
Here's a video of her first attempt. Don't be fooled by the smile. It ended just like the above picture.
She's getting better at it here.
Okay, is she not the cutest little girl you've ever seen covered in cereal??
She's also made a transformation into a much nicer baby. She's always been a nice baby for me and Dave, but she definitely went through a phase where she would INSTANTANEOUSLY FREAK OUT if anybody else held her or even LOOKED AT HER except for the two of us. Cute, because we knew that she liked us, but SO FRUSTRATING at the same time. You think I'm kidding, but just ask anybody that attempted to hold her during this phase, and they'll quickly agree. I was so worried that this was going to be the way she was forever, but in the last week she has much such a nice change. We went to dinner with Dave's family on Sunday and she let everyone hold her and never even made a PEEP!! I couldn't believe it.
I am definitely sad to see her grow and get bigger because I think that I'll never have those days again with her. I am with her every single day and I still feel like I am missing her growing because she does it so stinking fast! It is so fun to see her grow and change and learn new things though. For example, I got so excited the other day when she would open her mouth for the spoon to go in when I was feeding her cereal. It's little things like that that get me so excited. She is definitely growing and changing. I can't slow it down, so I might as well enjoy it right??
That's it for now. We're going to South Carolina in a few days, so stay tuned for a post about our fun trip out there!
Oh my word I can't stop laughing from all those cute videos! You three are some of my favorite people in the world! I just love you and I love these updates so much! Can't wait to see you guys so soon!!!! And I'm happy Lydia might let me hold her this time! :)
